Alternative Medicine - Acupuncture - Aromatherapy
Alternative medicine is defined as the use of health care products and systems that are not considered to be an integral part of conventional health care. They include practices such as acupuncture, aromatherapy and craniosacral therapy, along with the extensive use of herbal and plant-based medicines.
Ongoing research across many branches of alternative medicine is now proving that non-conventional health care does work. Practitioners involved in conventional medicine are also more accepting of alternative treatments, and may in some cases, advise their patients to explore the possibilities provided by some forms of alternative medicine.
Alternative medicine and associated therapies have their roots in ancient history, and can be considered as the 'original' form of medicine. The diverse range of alternative medicine and therapies available today reflects the equally diverse range of cultures that developed and practised medicine in different parts of the world many thousands of years ago. Then they made use of what Mother Nature would provide them in their locality. Plants and herbs that grew in Mexico for instance were very different to those that grew in China, and so gave rise to contrasting forms of medicine.
