Breast Enlargement - Breast Augmentation - Breast Surgery
Breast enlargement, also known as breast augmentation, is a surgical procedure designed to increase breast size by one or more bra cups. Breast enlargement is achieved by placing an artificial implant, normally of silicone or saltwater saline solution, between the breast tissue or breast muscle and rib cage. The procedure, which can last up to two hours, is a safe and proven way of enhancing breast size.
Breast enlargement surgery requires you to be under a general anaesthetic. The surgeon will make an incision into the breast at a point where scarring will be least visible. Once the incision is made, breast tissue (and muscle if necessary) are lifted to create a void into which the implant is placed. The implant is then centred and the cut stitched to heal. Normally the breast is then taped to the body to provide additional support during recovery.
Once the general anaesthetic wears off there is likely to be some swelling and pain. This will subside after a few days. Your doctor will prescribe some painkillers to help you through this time. Full recovery from breast enlargement surgery will take up to 8 weeks.
