Cellulite
Cellulite is subcutaneous fat that settles around the waist, hips and bottom producing a dimpled and sometimes rippled texture to the skin itself. Fat cells are known to swell, changing the fibrous tissue around them, which in turn pulls at the skin creating the characteristic texture of cellulite.
It is estimated that 90% of women develop cellulite and that a fair proportion of men have it too. It can strike at any age and is not directly attributed to being overweight, as slim people also develop cellulite. Physicians believe that cellulite is probably a result of genetics, although it has also been linked with hormonal changes in our body.
There are many solutions available to help reduce the visible signs of cellulite. They range from creams, soaps and 'cellulite-reducing' underwear to more proven methods such as liposuction and toning the body through exercise. Exercise is often the least expensive option but generally the most time-intensive one. Liposution offers a 'quick-fix' in that it breaks up and removes subcutaneous fat, and if the skin is tightened over the area by the surgeon then you'll banish the effects of cellulite.but at a price.
