CHILD BIRTH

Giving birth to a child can be daunting experience. Yours and your partner's life is about to change forever, and so it is understandable to feel a mix of emotions leading up to the big day.

Preparation for child birth is very important. You will need to decide where you would like the child to be born - at hospital, at home or elsewhere. For first-time mums it is highly recommended that you opt for a hospital birth, as should any complications arise then staff will be on-hand with the right medical equipment to offer you full support.

As the day draws closer you should have a bag packed for yourself and your baby. Labour could start at any time after 35-weeks of pregnancy so it is important to be ready to leave at a moment's notice. In your bag you should include clothes and pyjamas for yourself and your baby, toiletries (including nappies / diapers for the baby), a baby blanket and the baby's car seat if you are intending to go home by car.

A decision should also be taken on whether you intend to breast feed your baby. If you are going to breast feed then be sure to pack a nursing bra and pads in your bag. If you are not going to breast feed then you'll need to include packets of formula milk, feeding bottles and sterilising equipment.
