Contact Lenses - Opticians - Optician
Contact lenses are the modern-day solution to vision correction. Made from soft flexible polymer material that moulds to the outer cornea of the eye, they provide sufferers of vision refractive disorders a discrete and easily manageable alternative to spectacles. Astigmatism, myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness) and presbyopia (vision deterioration with age) can all be corrected using contact lenses, so providing the wearer with 20/20 vision.
Before buying contact lenses you will need to first obtain an eye prescription from your opticians. This will give you two pieces of information for each eye - a 'fitting' size and the power of the lens. Both are critical and can only be identified once an optometrist has examined your eyes. Selecting the wrong fitting and/or power of contact lens can damage your eyes, as your eyes will try to adapt to whatever lens you put in front of them!
Several different types of contact lenses are available, from disposal one-day wear to extended wear lenses and even coloured lenses. Which type you choose is mainly down to personal preference. Having said that, if you have sensitive eyes or are looking for the maximum amount of comfort from your contacts then a soft lens is advisable. Rigid Permeable Gas lenses (RPG) are more noticeable to the wearer when placed over the eye but do last longer and are therefore more economical to use.
