Drug Testing

Addressing the problem of drug taking by children at home or in school, and by adults in the workplace can be difficult at the best of times. Drug testing is one way to make sure that your child is not taking drugs or that your employees are not putting themselves or other people in danger by taking drugs and continuing to work.

In May 2004, home drug testing kits became readily available to purchase for the first time in the UK . Pharmacies, specialist suppliers and Internet suppliers now retail drug test kits for use at home and in the workplace.

Drug testing kits have a dual role. As well as unmasking those who are taking drugs, and opening the door for them to start a drug rehabilitation program if needs be, drug testing kits also act as a deterrent. As a deterrent they make children and employees think twice before taking drugs, and a drug testing kit also provides them with an excuse to offer to peers who might be putting them under pressure to take drugs.

To prevent drugs becoming a problem in the home or at work, parents and employers should encourage open communication and lay down some strict ground rules to discourage drug taking.
