Do you have a problem with your teeth that requires immediate attention? Dental emergencies happen all the time, and fortunately the NHS has a system in place to help you.
At the first sign of a problem you should telephone your regular dentist. If the emergency is during normal surgery hours your dentist may make room to see you or refer you to another dentist who can perform an emergency examination or surgery. If the emergency happen outside of normal surgery hours then phone your dentist anyway. A recorded message will give you instructions on who to contact in a dental emergency.
If you are not registered with a NHS dentist you will need to phone around your local dental practices and ask to register for emergency dental surgery. They will normally be able to help you or at least advise you on who you can contact. If outside of normal surgery hours then you can contact NHS Direct on 0845 4647. They will be able to give you the name, address and telephone number of dental surgeries that are registered as open in your area for out of hours emergency dental treatment.
