Erectile Dysfunction
Erectile Dysfunction (ED) is the inability to achieve an erection or a problem in maintaining an erection long enough to achieve sexual intercourse. It may be a taboo subject for some, but ED is in fact a very common problem. Almost one-third of men under the age of 50 suffer, or have suffered, from ED at some point in their lives. By the age of 70 it is thought that most men will have experienced ED.
The most common cause of erectile dysfunction is an inability to stimulate enough blood flow through the pelvic area to engorge the soft penis tissue. The underlying reasons may be down to poor muscle control or responses, hardened arteries or damaged nerve endings. For some men maintaining blood in the penis is the main challenge. This is again down to poor muscle control or muscle responses.
If you experience a spate of erection failures, you shouldn't immediately assume that you have erectile dysfunction. There are many other causes of erection failure that almost every man experiences. Failure could be down to stress, lack of passion, excessive pressure to perform or a wandering mind! Men are only diagnosed with ED once these factors have been eliminated and the problem persists for more than 12-weeks.
