Gambling Addiction
Gambling and risk taking is addictive. Whether you're on a roll or if you have just lost your money again, the belief that 'one more go' will solve all of your problems is always there. People who are unable to resist the 'one more go' temptation are on the slippery slope towards gambling addiction.
Addiction to gambling destroys lives. It might not threaten your life directly, but it will wreck a marriage, annihilate friendships and plunge you deeper and deeper into debt. For many addicts, gambling provides an outlet to escape from these problems, and the depression and anxiety that goes with them. But, gambling only adds fuel to the fire and deepens the troubles that you are trying to escape from in the first place.
Fortunately, just as with other addictions, help is available to overcome a gambling addiction. The first step though is to admit to yourself that you are unable to control your gambling urges. Only once you accept that you have a problem will anyone be able to help you. Treatment options available for gambling addiction include one-to-one counselling and inpatient care from the NHS, private and voluntary providers.
