Industrial disease is any injury, illness or other health condition contracted as a result of employment, either through long-term exposure to a substance or from damage sustained through performing constant repetitive tasks. Examples of industrial disease include exposure to asbestos, vibration white finger and deafness.

As an industrial disease, deafness is defined as a permanent loss of hearing caused by excessive noise in the workplace, regardless of whether ear protection was issued or not. Tinnitus also comes under this umbrella.
