Nutrition
Good nutrition is the cornerstone of healthy living. All of our organs and muscles need a constant supply of the right nutrients in order to function efficiently. Without this supply we becomes susceptible to disease and health problems.
Nutrients are the essential vitamins, minerals, protein and fibre required by the body. They are extracted from the foods that we eat, and need to be replenished each day. But, if we do not eat a healthy balanced diet, chances are that we are lacking in some of these important nutrients.
The vitamins A, B, C, D, E & K are an example of just one of the nutrient groups that we need to keep ourselves healthy. Vitamin A keeps our skin, hair, teeth and gums healthy, as well as contributing to bone growth. Vitamin B (of which there are four types) helps us to maintain healthy body tissue and to grow red blood cells. Vitamin C is essential for bone growth and blood vessel development. Vitamin D keeps our teeth and bones healthy so preventing rickets. Vitamin E is required for red blood cell formation, whilst vitamin K is necessary to help clot our blood so when we cut ourselves we do not bleed to death.
