Plastic Surgeons - Plastic Surgeon - Cosmetis Surgeon
Plastic surgeons provide a vital service to both men and women who require reconstruction surgery because of trauma or who want to undergo cosmetic enhancement surgery to retain their youthful looks. Practising in both private and NHS hospitals, plastic surgeons can perform a range of surgical procedures that can re-mould and change almost every part of the body's outward appearance.
NHS plastic surgeons tend to deal with urgent cases only. Where plastic surgery is considered non-urgent or where the plastic surgery to be performed is beyond the scope of the NHS, patients will be referred to a private plastic surgeon.
In the UK, private plastic surgery units are becoming increasingly specialised. There are units concentrating on facial plastic surgery, plastic surgery of the hands, natural breast reconstruction and treatment of burns cases to cite just a few. Referral to these units from any hospital, whether NHS or private, along with referrals from GPs provide the bulk of the work for these units.
The demand for plastic surgeons who undertake cosmetic and aesthetic plastic surgery is on the increase too. The number of people going under the knife in a quest for enhanced beauty is set to grow rapidly over this next decade, as are the numbers of plastic surgeons who are specifically skilled in cosmetic surgery.
