Plastic Surgery - Cosmetic Surgery
Plastic surgery is the provision of surgical procedures designed to reconstruct, re-mould or enhance the appearance of external body features. It caters for a large cross-section of the general population, from people who need reconstruction surgery because of an accident or illness, to those who wish to preserve their youthful appearance.
Plastic surgery is available on the NHS as well as through private units. Compared to private units the NHS has limited resources to carry out plastic surgery. As a result they will only deal with emergency cases of a straightforward nature and some therapeutic plastic surgery such as breast reconstruction after a mastectomy. All other plastic surgery requirements are referred to private surgeons.
Private plastic surgery units deal with all types of plastic surgery, from treatment of major burns to minor cosmetic enhancements. Extensive pre-op consultancy is provided to all of their patients. Private units make sure that patients are fully aware of the surgical procedure, and of the risks involved with surgery. The patient's expectations are also discussed in length, and an understanding of what is realistically achievable reached between consultant and patient.
Private plastic surgery units also provide a quality post-op service. Recovery in your own private room with unrestricted visiting hours is standard in most private units. You'll also have your own TV and access to nursing staff 24/7.
