beach95So you have decided on where to go on your next family holiday to the far away destination of Sharm el Shiekh, and you want to make sure you stay safe and healthy in the exotic land. To ensure the health of your children, make sure you include these items.

Medications

One of the most important things you need to pack is any prescribed medications the children are currently taking. Make sure to pack enough for everyday of travel plus extra for any possible delays. Take the original bottles from the pharmacy and prescriptions for air and foreign travel. If there is a problem, you will want all the medication information to provide to doctors or authorities. Also pack vitamins, cough medication, motion sickness and stomach upset medications, children’s pain reliever, and a thermometer. Be sure to include medications for allergies and any inhalers that your child might need.

First Aid

A first aid kit is a good idea for travel, especially if you will be play sports, hiking, and participating in activities that have a high risk of injury. A first aid kit should include Band-Aids, antibiotic ointment, an ace bandage, hand sanitizer, ice packs, pain reliever, a bottle for water, and other family essentials. Carry the first aid kit in the family suitcase for travelling and then in your daily bag when you are out sightseeing or participating in an activity.

Immunizations

When you travel overseas or to foreign countries, you and your children will need immunizations depending on where you will be visiting. You will want to check with your local health department for all the immunizations required for your travel. Also check to see if any of your previous vaccinations are out of date. Booster shots may be required. All travelers need the routine vaccines of measles-mumps-rubella (MMR), diphtheria-tetanus-pertussis (DPT), chickenpox, polio, and the yearly flu shot. Other shots might be required depending on where you are travelling. Take time to prepare your children for these shots, talk to them, and reassure them.

child3Important Information

When packing you want to make sure you have all your important numbers, addresses and documents you need for travel. If you are leaving your hometown, you want to make sure you have your doctor, pediatrician, and pharmacist numbers with you. If your child has special needs or an illness, take the time to get information needed for flying, traveling in new countries, hotels with the best amenities, and any referral you need in case you need to see a doctor in the area you will be visiting.

Medication and first aid are not the only concerns for health when travelling. You will want to include the comforts that make your child feel safe and emotionally healthy. You will want to include a night life, the favorite stuffed animal, security blanket, nightlight, a few select toys, crayons, paper, and travel games. Keeping your child’s mind and body entertained will help keep your child calm, happy, and safe.
