The American Society of Plastic Surgery found that during the year of 2009, that botox was the number one procedure that was performed in the United States. However, what was alarming was who made up these numbers of botox users. Out of the total number of people who received botox in 2009, two percent of the total recipients were teens that were aged 13 to 19 years old. What is more alarming is that due to celebrity influences, these numbers look to be going up and will continue to rise as well.
Dr. Grant Stevens talked with PopEater and explained that he has teenagers that live in Hollywood that come to him to have procedures done. He said that many want to have botox injections because they want to change how their face looks or create a different looking arc in their brow. He also stated that botox injections can change the way a smile looks on a person. Such as making the smile softer and friendlier or even more menacing in some.
Many graduation gifts are now consisting of cosmetic surgery. This has become a popular high school graduation present. Such as giving a teenager a gift of breast implants or having their nose re-done. However, this does beg the ethical question. Shouldn't ethics be questions? Is there a point where a teenager is too young to be having cosmetic procedures done? When is a teenager too young to be indulging in cosmetic surgery?
Many teen starlets are having cosmetic surgery because of the pressures of Hollywood. They go under the knife, have injections and or use other forms of cosmetic surgery to enhance and change their appearance. They feel that it is the only way for them to stay on top of their game and keep their position in Hollywood. For example, Hillary Duff splurged and had veneers added when she was only 18 years of age. While Charice from Glee has admitted to having botox injections to change her appearance. Then there is Ali Lohan that her limps plumped and added to when she was a mere 14 years old.
