The numbers are in and for the first time there is now over one million botox treatments carried out every year. This seems to be a reflection of the need to look young and beautiful like the celebrities and "beautiful people" that grace our television's and magazines. The figures show that there has been a jump of 15% in botox and lip plumping type treatments in the past 12 months.
Even with the risks dangers and undesirable problems that may arise from botox treatments people are still out there every day paying for these botox injections. In spite of the fact that they could be one of the very unfortunate ones to end up with a face that has trouble communicating the normal range of facial expressions that would otherwise be easy people still pay for botox injections. It seems that it has now become the normal part of a beauty routine to stay looking young and beautiful. To prove this point a recent research survey conducted showed that around 19 million people, male and female would be happy to receive some form of cosmetic treatment if it was in their budget.
Botox is big business, it offers people the promise to look younger and with that brings repeat business. The Botox industry nets more than 18 million dollars a year in the UK alone. There is also a tone of money to be made in plumping up lips even with some very publicized disasters. If you do a search for Leslie Ash you will see how she was left disfigured by the procedure. Yet that does nothing to deter people from the procedure.
Surgical beauty enhancements have not been as popular but are still on the increase, up by 9% between the years 2008 and 2010. Breast augmentation is at the top of the list for surgical enhancements trailed by Blepharoplasty (eyelid tightening/eyelid lift) and neck and face lifts. The total increase for cosmetic enhancements in the last 2 years has risen by 17% giving a estimate 2.3 billion dollars to the industry. Accessibility is the key. No wonder the industry is booming with consumers being able to have a non surgical beauty treatment scheduled as out patient procedures and done in their lunch breaks.
