Physicians are now starting to advise their clients who are looking for breast augmentation surgery to get silicone breast implants. This new recommendation is mostly based on the fact that silicone breast implants look and feel more natural, like a real breast than the saline implants do. However, there is a downside to these new implants. They come pre-filled and that makes it very difficult for the doctor to fit through a tiny incision. When it comes to the saline breast implants, they are not pre-filled and the surgeon fills them with the saline solution after they have been placed.
Physicians have now found a new tool that will place the silicone implant easier and more effectively. This new method is called the Keller Funnel No Touch Technique, with the funnel slightly resembling a baker’s bag; you know the ones that bakers use for decorating cakes? The funnel allows the doctor to insert the silicone breast implant without actually having to touch the implant at all and that reduces the risk of infection by a significant amount.
This notion is so straightforward and a lot easier that it shocks a lot of people because it took so long to develop. The procedure is very easy to perform; it begins with the silicone breast implant being placed into the funnel, which is wider at one end and then tapered down to a narrower tip on the opposing end. Once the incision is made in the skin by the surgeon, the skin becomes retracted and the narrow end of the funnel is placed there. The doctor effortlessly squeezes the other end, working his way towards the narrow opening while pushing the implant down. Now, since the silicone breast implant has fairly malleable sides it easily slides through the narrow opening and into position inside the breast.
On another note, this new procedure does have several other advantages than making things easier on the physician performing the surgery. The patients are responding more frequently and saying that their healing is a lot easier. This could be due to the fact that there are fewer traumas to the breast tissue itself because the silicone implant is placed a lot easier than the saline implants. This technique may also prevent a hardened casing of tissue from forming around the implant. This new method ensures that the doctor doesn’t touch the implant, lowering the risk of infections.
