An Active Retirement Is The Best Retirement

succesful senior couple in loveGetting older is fact of life, and with free time for doing what you want and grandchildren to enjoy, retirement is often a time of well deserved relaxation. But for some of us, poor health can be an unwelcome guest at a time when we really should be at our most relaxed. However, I have found that exercising and keeping active has really helped me to improve my overall health and I feel so much better for it.

Now, I am not saying that you should join a gym or even take up a new sport, being active is something that anyone can do at any time, and I am living proof of that. Just taking a walk to the shops each morning or playing a game with your family will get your heart pumping a bit faster, and that is all you need to aim for.

Keeping your house in order is something else that will help you to keep moving. Housework is just as valuable as any other form of exercise, and don’t be afraid to get yourself a little bit out of breath when you’re doing it. You’re not doing yourself any harm, and you can very slowly build on your current level of fitness in this way.

There is no need for you to push yourself too hard though, if there is any heavy lifting involved for example, myself and my husband use a great man and van in Luton, not an obvious choice, but nevertheless, one that works. He is great and will come and help us out whenever we are in need of some muscles! So don’t be afraid of looking outside of the box to find the answers that will suit you.

Serious medical conditions aside, there is no reason why every retired person shouldn’t lead a more healthy lifestyle, and if you are worried about any possible health implications, then you should just speak to your doctor about it. It is well documented that improved physical health can lead to improved mental health, and taking  better care of yourself means that you will be more prepared to deal with any problems that may occur. So whatever your current level of activity is, you can take small steps to increasing it, and I guarantee you that you will feel better than you have in years!
