A £34 million surgical Elective Care Centre at University Hospital Aintree is going to welcome its first inaugural Patients in the ending of the month as Walton Hospital transfers the services. This state-of-the-art facility is key to the Vision of providing high quality, patient-centred healthcare, with a first class local, national and international reputation”.
The main outpatients department moved to the ECC from the University Hospital Aintree on Monday, 28th of June. An upgrade to the existing facilities will be enabled by this, which will then re-open in their normal location in November.
It will take the whole second half of the year to move services from Walton to Aintree. The Elective Care Centre (ECC) will start the service of Day surgery and the ophthalmology from the 23rd of August. The Breast Service will also be transfering from Walton Hospital to the Elective Care Centre (ECC) , on the 20th of September.
The Walton Hospital will transfer the rest of the services from mid-November, completing the transfers in December.
Except most of the services transfering from Walton Hospital to the ECC, some services will be moving to other locations. For outpatient services, they are expanding the physiotherapy centre at University Hospital Aintree as well as building a new Diabetes Centre worth £1.5 million.
To enable a major upgrade of the Outpatient clinics, they are currently being hold from University Hospital Aintree by the ECC. On Monday, the 15th of November, they will be moved back to their permanent location. Before the end of the year, other services from Walton Hospital will begin finishing the transferring, across to the University Hospital Aintree site.
Advice about where the appointments will be taking place is being given to the Patients in their appointment letters, in which the location maps of the University Hospital Aintree site and the Elective Care Centre is also included. The ECC is opposite the Aintree Lodge entrance to the hospital, adjacent to the new 1,250 space Multi-storey car park. It is being advised to the patients using the ECC that the hospital's car park is the most convenient for them. They have also provided a drop off zone outside the main entrance of ECC for disabled or immobile patients.
