1109466_48975331Do you get admiring glances at the smoothness of your skin? If you do, you must be taking special care of your skin and possibly already aware of some of the essential things you need to do to keep your skin looking young and beautiful. If on the other hand your skin is dry and wrinkled, it’s time to act and learn the secrets to having healthy glowing skin which people will admire.

Protect your skin from the sun
Everyone likes a lovely suntan but the sun can also be harmful to your skin. If you spend too much time in the sun each year then there is no doubt that in time you will be prone to wrinkles and even in some cases skin cancer.

You need to use a sunscreen with a suitable factor; if you are outdoors in the sun on a regular basis you really need to apply it every couple of hours especially if you are swimming, active or perspiring which you are bound to do when it is hot.

You should look for shade regularly, wear a hat or cap when you can, certainly in the heat of the day, and ironically even though you are hot cover your arms and legs in the midday sun when it’s most intense.

Smoking certainly has an adverse effect on your skin and general health. It can narrow your blood vessels which affects your skin because it decreases the flow of blood and oxygen around your body and also affects the repair cycle of damaged skin cells.

You should make every effort to look after your skin by regular cleansing. Treat your skin gently and don’t expose it too regularly to really hot water in baths or showers because that can remove your natural oils. Similarly, strong soaps can do the same thing. Whenever you shave you should be careful to soften your skin and shave in the direction that the hair is growing and not against it.

When you dry yourself use a towel and pat, rather than rub, yourself dry and apply moisturising cream anytime that your skin looks too dry.

A healthy diet helps your skin in all sorts of ways, not to mention your weight and general appearance. Fruit and vegetables are essential as well as lean meat and fish which are also good for you. Try to avoid fried food as much as possible. There’s no need to be too strict though, and you are allowed a little alcohol. Everything in moderation is a good guide, and don’t forget to drink plenty of water throughout the day.

Stress can also be a factor which affects your skin, though there is no identifiable reason why the two should be associated. But as they say, a healthy mind a healthy body, and if you handle pressure well you’re certainly likely to be less stressed and therefore healthier than someone who doesn’t. If you don’t like stress then you need to think of the best ways to relieve it or avoid it in the first place. A good night’s sleep or a relaxing facial massage is one of the easiest ways to recover from a stressful day.
